A marine reserve is a protected area where only non-extractive activities are allowed. If a marine reserve is well cared for it can offer many benefits.
Studies conducted in different parts of the world have shown that marine reserves help increase the number and size of fish for fishing, are a breeding ground and feeding area for key species, as well as provide shelter for migratory species.
Marine reserves are important because they are the nurseries of the sea. Despite this, only 0.01% of the ocean is protected as a marine reserve and Cabo Pulmo National Park is one of these few and privileged places.
